Notetaker being built

Every conversation written down, without you taking notes. Start it from whatever device is nearest, and read it back afterwards with the decisions and the promises pulled out of it.

What it will do

• Start recording from any device you are signed in on, and pick it up on another one afterwards. The writing up happens on our side, so a phone that recorded it does not have to do the work.
• On a computer it listens to the call rather than joining it. Nothing appears in the meeting as a guest, nobody has to admit a bot, and the other side is not looking at a participant called Notetaker while they talk.
• Paste a screenshot straight into the transcript at the moment it belongs to, so a slide or a figure sits in the run of the conversation instead of in a separate folder nobody opens again.
• A written record you can search across every conversation you have had, not just the one you remember the date of.
• What was decided and what somebody agreed to do, pulled out and listed separately from the talk around them.
• A companion app for Windows and Android first, then iPhone, with the web version as the place everything is read, corrected and shared.

Why it is built this way

Two decisions shape it, and both are refusals. It listens rather than joins, because a guest in the participant list changes how people talk and needs somebody to let it in. And it announces that it is recording, on every call, without an option to turn that off. Around a dozen states require everyone on a call to agree before it can be recorded, and not one of them makes an exception for it having been convenient. Announcing is the only version of this that is lawful everywhere it might be switched on, so it is built in rather than left as a setting somebody forgets.
